An electrode is any terminal by which an
electric current passes in or out of a
conducting substance, eg: the anode or
cathode in a battery or the carbons in an arc
lamp. The terminals that emit and collect the
flow of electrons in thermionic valves
(electron tubes) are also called electrodes:
for example, cathodes, plates, and grids.
